MyGeotab : How can I add more than one group to a device with the bulk edit tool?

Procedure


If modifying only one Asset (Device/User/Driver/Zone/Trailer) at a time with the Bulk Edit Tool

  1. From the main menu, select Administration > Bulk Edit or select System > Bulk Edit
  2. In the Select Asset box click on the dropdown menu and select the Asset to modify
  3. In the Select Properties boxselect Groups (If the Asset is a User/Driver select Data Access )
  4. Select Manual Changes tab
  5. From the Edit this asset box select the asset to be modified
  6. In the box on the right with the available groups, hold the CTRL key and click on all the groups you want to add.
  7. Click on Submit my changes
  8. A message will appear on the top All edits have been successfully completed.


If modifying more than one Asset (Device/User/Driver/Zone/Trailer) at a time with the Bulk Edit Tool

  1. From the main menu, select Administration > Bulk Edit or select System > Bulk Edit
  2. In the Select Asset box click on the dropdown menu and select the Asset to modify
  3. In the Select Properties boxselect Groups ( If the Asset is a User/Driver select Data Access )
  4. Click on Use a spreadsheet tab
  5. Click on Get a template from chosen properties and Save (download) document
  6. Inside the downloaded excel document type on the Assetcolumn ( Device / User / Zone / Trailer ) the name of the Asset , if modifying a device write the Serial number
  7. Type on the Groups column the name of the groups from your database you would like to have the vehicle in(If adding more than one Group type a Semicolon ; between each group on that same cell)
  8. Save the excel document *Make sure it has been saved in a CSV (Comma delimited format)
  9. Back in the Bulk Edit Tool page click on Upload my file
  10. Select the previously savedexcel document, and click Open, a green check mark will appear
  11. Click on Submit my changes
  12. A message will appear on the top All edits have been successfully completed.

Additional Notes

If the Asset has already a group that you would like to keep, make sure you add it or select it while using the Bulk Edit Tool as mentioned above, as the Tool will overwrite all the groups information.

Best practice is to copy and paste the Groups name from the Advanced Groups List report, that can be downloaded directly from the main menu in Rules & Groups > Groups > Report > Advanced, as this would avoid the system from not recognizing a group because it was written wrongly or different.

When pasting in Excel, always choose the Paste Values option.
