Assets: What is Automatic Vehicle Management

Updated

Answer

  • When this feature is enabled, it manages when devices get switched between vehicles.
  • When the device detects a different VIN, it automatically makes the vehicle historical, and creates a new vehicle.

Additional Notes

  • In cases where the new VIN that the device detects is from an existing vehicle in the database, it will replace the device of that vehicle, instead of creating a new vehicle.
  • This feature does not work with the following cases:
    • The device goes from a vehicle with an Invalid VIN to a vehicle with a Valid VIN.
    • The device goes from a vehicle with an Invalid VIN to another vehicle with an Invalid VIN.
  • This feature can cause Add device, Edit device, or Archived device (made historical) logs by the system in the Audit Log.
  • If you would like to delete the additional vehicle, look for the vehicle with no serial number(s). You could fix this by establishing the older serial number, looking for the new vehicle (usually doesn't have the VIN populated), or unplugging that device.
  • This feature can be used with any Rate Plan.
