Groups and Rules: Why does the Trip History Idling duration show something different from the Built-in Rule for Idling?

Updated

Answer

The Trip History Idling condition is different than the Rules Idling condition. Therefore, there may be small discrepancies between the two data.

Additional Notes

Trip History Idling is only counted when the following conditions are met during a MyGeotab stop. A MyGeotab stop is defined by IGN OFF or no GPS movement for 200 s. This means that if a vehicle is 'stopped'/not moving in the middle of a trip for less than 200s (not considered a stop in MyGeotab), it will not count as idling in the Trip History.

  • Ignition ON
  • Vehicle has not changed position
  • Speed less than 1 km/h (0.6 mph) for more than 200 seconds

Built-in Idling Rule Conditions:

  • Ignition ON
  • Duration Between GPS Less than 3 minutes
  • Speed less than 5 km/h (3.1mph) for more than 300 seconds
