MyGeotab: How Does the Driver Identification Reminder Work?

Updated

Answer

  • The Identification reminder time period (for example: 30 seconds) indicates how long the Driver's NFC key will remain in the memory of the device when ignition is off.
  • This means if the driver swipes the key before Ignition ON , the key will remain in GO device memory for 30 s and within these 30 s the driver will have to turn the ignition ON.
  • The device WILL beep immediately if the ignition is turned ON without the swiping the key first or if ignition is turned on after the driver Identification reminder window (30 s) has passed since the key was swiped the first time.
  • Driver identification reminder does NOT determine how long the device will beep for and does NOT define a grace period before beeping starts when ignition is turned on. There is no way to start the ignition (ON) and then get a grace period before beeping starts for the driver to swipe the key.

Additional Notes

Here are some examples of scenarios:

IGN OFF --> Swipe key fob --> driver assigned to vehicle --> IGN ON within 30 seconds of swipe in --> No beeping; the driver remains assigned

IGN OFF --> Swipe key fob --> driver assigned to vehicle --> IGN ON more than 30 seconds after swipe in --> Previous driver ID is dropped; reminder beeps and driver needs to swipe in again

IGN ON --> Driver ID Reminder Beeps --> key fob swiped --> driver assigned to vehicle; beeping stops

IGN ON --> Driver ID Reminder Beeps --> key fob swiped ---> driver assigned to vehicle; beeping stops --> IGN OFF --> IGN ON within 30 seconds of OFF --> driver still assigned to vehicle; no beeping

IGN ON --> Driver ID Reminder Beeps --> Key fob swiped --> driver assigned to vehicle; beeping stops --> IGN OFF --> IGN ON more than 30 seconds after OFF --> Previous driver ID is dropped; reminder beeps and driver needs to swipe in again
