Symptoms
- Ignition and Engine Road Speed are being read correctly so automatic duty status logs should be created.
- No automatic logs for the vehicle under any driver or unidentified driver.
- Several J1939 Faults showing under Engine Faults.
- Device is terminated.
- Drive log not changing automatically.
Cause
- Hours of Service (HOS) setting on the Asset Edit page was changed to Off , and after that, no automatic logs will be created, but a driver selecting this vehicle will still have the option to make Manual logs.
- Note: A Vehicle that has HOS set to Off will not be in compliance with the FMCSA's rules and regulations for creating automatic driving logs.
- Accelerometer Readings have been disabled for the device and will need to be reset.
- Telematics device fault: check device install - accelerometer disabled due to excessive data.
Resolution
Resolution 1: HOS Automatic Log Creation Disabled
Turn the Hours of Service (HOS) setting on by following the below steps:
- Go to Vehicles & Assets or Assets.
- Select the desired vehicle.
- Click More Details at the top.
- Turn Hours of Service (HOS) to On.
- Click Save.
To bulk change all devices to On:
- Go to Vehicles & Assets or Assets.
- Click on the multiple selection menu on the top right.
- Select visible.
- Click on Edit selected devices.
- Turn Hours of Service (HOS) to On.
- Click Save.
Resolution 2: Accelerometer Data Disabled:
If Engine Fault: "Telematics device fault: check device install - accelerometer disabled due to excessive data" is generated for the device, reset the accelerometer data by following the instructions in this article: How Do I Reset the Disabled Accelerometer?
Additional Information
- Hours of Service (HOS) Setting on the Vehicle Edit page has the following options:
- On: The device will always create automatic logs for the vehicle.
- Automatic: The device will not create unidentified driver logs if no driver has ever selected that vehicle. However, if a driver selects that vehicle then this option will automatically switch to On and will stay at On unless someone manually changes it.
- Off: No Automatic logs will be created. If a driver selects this vehicle then he will have the option to make Manual logs.
- If Several J1939 faults are showing and the device stops recording Automatic Drive logs, inform the administrator to check the installation of the device and/or harness. In order to make sure the device is connected secure to record the proper Engine Data.

- Ignition and Engine road speed can be found in the UI under Engine & Maintenance > Engine and Device... > Measurements or Maintenance > Diagnostics > Measurements. In Option > Diagnostics search for Ignition and Engine road speed.
