Fleet idling: How can I use MyGeotab to decrease fleet idle time?

Updated

Procedure

Fleet idling is a leading cause of unnecessary CO2 emissions. By reducing idling, fleets can approach CO2 emissions reductions goals. Some ways to approach this are:

  • Set up an Idling rule and notification
    • To set up notifications for an Idling rule, please view:  MyGeotab: How to set up email notifications for a rule
    • Drivers can be alerted of long-idling events as a reminder to turn the vehicle off. This rule can also be applied as an active coaching experience
    • Establish a baseline for the fleet's behaviors to identify and reduce idling across all vehicles, targeting the worst offenders. Apply notificationsto specific groups to account for vocational idling.
  • Track trends with Custom Reports
    • The standard Exception Details report, included by default within each MyGeotab database, shows when, where and for how long true idling or wasted time events occurred.
    • Weekly Idle Cost US Gallons Trend Report : Shows the overall cost of idling for the fleet using gallons. Intended to be run for a week"s duration, broken down daily for trending analysis.
    • Weekly Idle Cost US Litres Trend Report: Shows the overall cost of idling for the fleet using litres. Intended to be run for a week"s duration, broken down daily for trending analysis.
    • Last 3 Months Idling Trend : Displays the total idling time for the entire fleet over the last three months.
    • Trended Exception Report : Showcase how your drivers are doing compared to each other on a trend. Designed to be reporting for a monthly or weekly data set, showing daily or weekly trends.
  • Use the Green Fleet Dashboard
    • Using the Green Fleet Dashboard , you can track your driver idling over time, measuring the long-term success of your fleet's anti-idling program.
